Deborah Carlson, PhD currently serves as an Audiology consultant following retirement as the Director of the Center for Audiology and Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). During her 33 years at UTMB, Dr. Carlson oversaw audiology services, provided direct patient care, taught audiology and medical residents, and participated in research.
She is currently involved in professional commitments related to healthcare economics, payment systems, a systematic review and guideline for adult hearing evaluation, and activities related to audiology clinical education. She is a past president of the American Academy of Audiology, a founding member and past president of the Texas Academy of Audiology, and a past member of the Texas State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology (SBESLPA). Past professional activities include: accreditation & standards, administration & supervision, coding and reimbursement, scientific/professional education for the AAA, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) .
