My research journey began during undergraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, where I worked with Dr. Lars Strother on face recognition and brain lateralization, igniting my interest in sensory integration. A clinical rotation in otolaryngology inspired me to focus on ENT, where I saw the potential to connect my sensory processing background to hearing research. As a medical student on a research year at the University of Washington under Dr. Gavriel Kohlberg and Dr. Richard Wright, I am invested in understanding how normal-hearing individuals use visual cues, like facial expressions and text, to interpret speech in noisy environments. I am excited to share our findings at the AAA conference, with the full study anticipated for completion in February 2025. Looking ahead, I plan to extend this research to individuals with hearing loss, aiming to develop tools that enhance communication and improve quality of life in complex auditory settings.
