Founder and Executive Director
Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance
Los Angeles, California
Monika Jones is an inactive attorney and the founder of the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance. The mother of a child born with a rare brain malformation that caused medication-resistant seizures requiring a hemispherectomy, she is a tireless advocate for children who need brain surgery to treat their seizures.
In 2019, she led a PCORI-funded initiative that identified serious gaps in research on auditory processing outcomes following major pediatric epilepsy surgeries and now aims to improve patient outcomes in this field. She is also the principal investigator of the Global Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Registry, the only patient-driven (by parent proxy) data collection effort focused on understanding developmental outcomes following epilepsy surgery in children. Her advocacy work has been featured in The New York Times, People Magazine, NPR, the Netflix documentary series "Diagnosis", and the Amazon Prime documentary *Life With Half a Brain."
