Amy Szarkowski, PhD, specializes in working with, understanding, and improving the lives of children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) and their families. She has provided psychological services and served on a cochlear implant team. Szarkowski is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Boston, as well as Faculty for the LEND program (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) at Boston Children’s Hospital. Szarkowski was a member of the Writing Team for the 2024 Special Issue on Family-Centered Early Intervention Deaf/Hard of Hearing (FCEI-DHH). Current research projects examine parent-child interaction in families with children who are DHH and explore child development outcomes in this population. Dr. Szarkowski is the Lead for Fostering Joy – Professionals, a movement that promotes joyful interactions between caregivers and their DHH children, as well as the professionals who support them.
